an island of Sweden, seated on the Baltic sea, between the continent of Gothland and the isle of Gothland. It lies between 56° and 57° of north latitude, and between 17° and 18° of east longitude. It is about 60 miles in length, and 15 in breadth; having a wholesome air, and a fertile soil, with rising hills, and several castles. It has no town of any great note.
