an island of the Baltic sea, at the entrance of the gulf of Livonia. It is about 70 miles in length, and 50 in breadth, and contains 12 parishes. It is defended by the fortresses of Airesburg and Sonneburg. It lies between 22° and 24° of east longitude, and between 58° and 59° of north latitude.
