a river of North America, called by the French the Beautiful River, has its source between the Alleghany mountains and the lake Erie; and running southward through a most delightful country, and also receiving many smaller rivers in its passage, at length falls into the Mississippi, in about 37 degrees of latitude. The French had several forts on and near it; but the whole country through which it flows was ceded by the peace of 1763 to the British.

O HETEROA, one of the South Sea islands lately discovered, is situated in W. Long. 15° 47'. S. Lat. 22. 27. It is neither fertile nor populous; nor has it an harbour or anchorage fit for shipping, and the disposition of the people is hostile to such as visit them.
