Original Sin, the crime of eating the forbidden fruit, of which, it is said, all mankind are guilty at their conception, by the imputation of Adam's transgression; which is accounted for by supposing, that Adam, as he was to be the father, was also the federal head and representative, of the whole human race; and that, on his finning, all that were to spring from him partook of his crimes.
