a general name given to that vast peninsula, extending itself from the isthmus of Darien to Cape Horn, in the form of a triangle, of which the Terra Magallonica and the Cape form the vertex. It includes the whole of South America, although, as is well known, all the countries included within these limits do not acknowledge the dominion of the crown of Spain. See Terra Firma.
