Volume 15 · 82 words · 1797 Edition

a small island in the Archipelago, seated between Milo and Mergo. It has no harbour, but has a town about three miles from the shore near a huge rock. It is a ragged stony island, but yields as much corn as is sufficient for the inhabitants, who consist of about 120 Greek families, all Christians. The only commodity is cotton; of which they make napkins, a dozen of which are sold for a crown. E. Long. 35° 25'. N. Lat. 36° 36'.
