PUTAMINEÆ, (from putamen “a shell,”) the name of the 25th order of Linnaeus’s fragments of a natural method; consisting of a few genera of plants allied in habit, whose fleshy seed-vessels or fruit is frequently covered with a hard woody shell. See Botany, p. 462.
