(anc. geogr.), a town of the Rauricii, situated over against Abnoba, a mountain from which the Danube takes its rise. A Roman colony led by L. Manius Plancus the scholar and friend of Cicero, called Colonia Raurica (Pliny), Raurica (Inscription), Augula Rauricorum. The town was destroyed in Julian's time. It is now commonly called Augs, a village greatly decayed from what it formerly was. It is situated on the Rhine, distant about two hours to the east of Basle. The country is now the canton of Basle.
