a town of Essex, commonly called Saffron Walden, with a market on Saturdays, and two fairs on Mid-lent Saturday for horses, and November 1st for cows. It is remarkable for the plenty of saffron that grows about it. This town was incorporated by Edward VI. and is governed by a mayor and 24 aldermen.
