The power to which we allude is that of different substances; such as wool, cotton, silk, and linen, to absorb or attract moisture from the atmosphere. On this subject the reader will find some very instructive experiments detailed (in Encycl.), where perhaps he may not have looked for them, under the title **FANEL**.
