ARBOUR

Volume 2 · 65 words · 1810 Edition

in Gardening, a kind of shady bower, formerly in great esteem; but of late rejected on account of its being damp and unwholesome.

Arbours are generally made of lattice work, either of wood or iron; and covered with elms, limes, hornbeams; or with creepers, as honeyuckles, jasmine, or passion flowers; either of which will answer the purpose very well, if rightly managed.
