BASTARNÆ, or BASTERNÆ, a people of German original, manners, and language; who extended themselves a great way to the east of the Vistula, the eastern boundary of Germany, among the Sarmatæ, as far as the mouth of the Ister and the Euxine; and were divided into several nations.
BASTARNICÆ ALPES, in Ancient Geography, mountains extending between Poland, Hungary, and Transylvania, called also the Carpathes, and now the Carpathian mountains.
