BERQUERIA, or BERKERIA, in middle-age writers, denotes a sheep-fold, sheep-cote, sheep-pen, or other enclosure, for the safe keeping a flock of sheep.—The word is abbreviated from berbicaria; of berber, detorted from verve. Hence also a shepherd was denominated herbicarius and bergarius.
