BION

Volume 3 · 60 words · 1810 Edition

a bucolic poet, native of Smyrna, lived at the same time with Ptolemy Philadelphus, whose reign reached from the fourth year of the 123rd Olympiad to the second year of the 133rd. He was an incomparable poet, if we may believe the lamentations of his disciple Moschus. His few pieces which are left do not contradict this testimony. See MOSCHUS.
