It was the royal residence, (called Zephyra formerly); especially of Maulolus, made more illustrious by his monument. This monument was one of the seven wonders, and erected by Artemisia. Halicarnassus, or Halicarnassensis, was the gentilissimus name of Herodotus and Dionysius. The former was called the Father of History; and the latter was not only a good historian but also a distinguished critic.
