a town of Ireland, and capital of a county of the same name, in the province of Ulster, situated in W. Long. 6° 32' N. Lat. 54° 0'.

a county of Ireland, 47 miles in length, and 23 in breadth; is bounded on the east by Monaghan, and on the south by Longford, West-Meath, and East-Meath. It has but two towns of any note, viz., Cavan and Kilmore. It sends five members to parliament; two for the county, two for Cavan, and one for Kilmore. It contains upwards of 8000 houses, 37 parishes, seven baronies, and two boroughs.
