Law, the depositing any sum of money, bills, papers, or commodities, in good hands; either by appointment of a court of justice, in order to be delivered to the persons to whom they are adjudged; or voluntarily, in order to their being returned to the persons they belong to, or sent to the places they are designed for.
Consignment of Goods, in Commerce, is the delivering or making them over to another; thus, goods are said to be consigned to a factor, when they are sent to him to be sold, &c.; or when a factor lends back goods to his principal, they are said to be consigned to him.
