JADDESESSE is the name of an inferior order of priests in Ceylon, who have the care of the chapels appropriated to the genii, who form a third order of gods among these idolaters. These priests are applied to by the people in time of disease or calamity, who offer a cock on their behalf to appease the anger of the demons.
