JUNE

Volume 11 · 77 words · 1810 Edition

sixth month of the year, during which the sun enters the sign of Cancer. The word comes Jungerman—from the Latin *junius*, which some derive *à junone*. Ovid, in the 6th of his *Fasti*, makes the goddess say,

*Junius à nostro nomine nonem habet.*

Others rather derive it *à junitoribus*, this being for young people as the month of May was for old ones.

*Junius eff juvenum; qui fuit ant senum.*

In this month is the summer solstice.
