a lake in South America, 200 miles long and 100 broad, which discharges itself by a river into the North sea. It is well defended by strong forts; which, however, did not hinder Sir Henry Morgan, a bucanier, from entering it, and plundering several Spanish towns on the coast, after defeating a squadron sent out against him.
