North, a town of Devonshire, on the river Moul.

South, on the same stream, 182 miles from London. This, as well as the former, was anciently royal demesne. It sent members to parliament in the reign of Edward I., consists of a mayor, 18 capital burgesses, a recorder, town clerk, and 2 serjeants at mace. Its chief manufactures are ferges, balloons, and felts; and a considerable market for wool.
