a river and lake of the Russian empire, between Mulcovite Carelia, the territory of Cargapol, and Swedish Carelia. It is 100 miles in length and 40 in breadth, having a communication with the lake Ladoga, and consequently with Peterburgh. The river has its source in Cargapol, and gives its name to a country full of woods, and falls into the White sea.
