a town of Germany, in the circle of Franconia, and capital of a county of the same name, with a castle, where the counts reside. It is seated near the river Altmael, 17 miles north-west of Neuburg, and 32 south of Nuremberg; and is subject to its own count. E. Long. 10. 51. N. Lat. 48. 58. The count of Pappenheim is hereditary marshal of the empire, and performs his office at the coronation of the emperor.
