PARENCHYMA

in Anatomy, a term introduced by Erasistratus, signifying all that substance which is contained in the interstices betwixt the blood vessels of the vasa, which he imagined to be extravasated and concreted blood.

PARENCHYMA of Plants. Grew applies the term parenchyma to the pith or pulp, or that inner part of a fruit or plant through which the juice is supposed to be distributed. See PLANTS.
