is a grove near the city of Muxadab in India, famous for a battle fought between the English under Lord Clive, and the native Hindoos under the nabob Surajah Dowlah. The British army consisted of about 3200 men, of whom the Europeans did not exceed 900; while that of the nabob consisted of 50,000 foot, and 18,000 horse. Notwithstanding this great disproportion, however, Lord Clive effectually routed the nabob and his forces, with the loss of three Europeans and 26 Seapoys killed, and five Europeans and 40 Seapoys wounded. The nabob's loss was estimated at about 200 men, besides oxen and elephants. See CLIVE.
