**CHRYSANTHEMUM**, corn marigold: A genus of the polygamia superflua order, belonging to the syngena class of plants. See Botany Index.
**CHRYSSES**, the priest of Apollo, father of Alynome, called from him Chrysis. When Lycomedes was taken, and the spoils divided among the conquerors, Chryses fell to the share of Agamemnon. Chryses upon this went to the Grecian camp to solicit his daughter's restoration; and when his prayers were fruitless, he implored the aid of Apollo, who visited the Greeks with a plague, and obliged them to restore Chryses.
