Antiquity, the name of a vessel in use among the Romans for the measuring of liquids. It was at first called amphora; and afterwards quadrantal, from its form, which was square every way like a die. Its capacity was 80 hogsheads, or pounds of water, which made 48 sextaries, two urnae, or eight congi.
