called also DIAPHONICS, the consideration of the properties of refracted sound, as it passes through different mediums. The word is formed from the Greek dia, per, "through," which intimates a passage; and acous, "I hear," q. d. the consideration of the passage of the sounds we hear. See Acoustics.
