She is represented crowned with laurels, holding in one hand a trumpet, and a book in the other. Sometimes she holds a plectrum or quill with a lute. Her name signifies honour and reputation, gloria; and it was her office faithfully to record the actions of brave and illustrious heroes. She had Hyacintha by Pierius, son of Magnes.

in Zoology, a genus of insects belonging to the order of vermes mollusca. The body is oblong and fitted for swimming; and it has two membranaceous wings placed opposite to each other. The species are three, principally distinguished by the shape of their vagina, and are all natives of the ocean.
