or DALLER, a silver coin nearly of the value of the Spanish piece of eight, or French crown.

Dollars are coined in different parts of Germany and Holland; and have their diminutives, as semidollars, quarter-dollars, &c. See Money Table.

They are not all of the same fineness or weight. The Dutch dollars are the most frequent. In the Levant they are called gilaimi, from the impression of a lion thereon.
