a city in the province of Andalusia, in Spain, seated on the Guadalquivir. It is pretty large, indifferently rich, and defended by a good castle. It is adorned with handsome churches and several religious houses, and inhabited by many families of high rank. The land about it abounds in corn, wine, oil, honey, and fruit of all sorts; and the inhabitants carry on a considerable trade in silk. W. Long. 4. 2. N. Lat. 37. 45.
