SARMENTOSÆ (from sarmentum, a long shoot like that of a vine); the name of the 11th clas in Linnaeus's Fragments of a Natural Method, consisting of plants which have climbing stems and branches, that, like the vine, attach themselves to the bodies in their neighbourhood for the purpose of support.
