Ancient Geography, a town which lay between the brook Jabbok and the river Jordan, where Jacob fixed his tents. There was another Succoth, where the Israelites first encamped after their departure from Ramees towards the Red sea. Succoth signifies tents.
Sucubus, a term used by some writers for a demon who assumes the shape of a woman, and as such lies with a man; in which sense it stands opposed to incubus, which was a demon in form of a man, that lies with a woman. But the truth is, the succubus is only a species of the nightmare. See Medicine, No. 329.
