ARCHIACOLYTHUS

(from ἀρχής chief; and ἀκολούθος minister), an ancient dignity in cathedral churches: the ministers whereof were divided into four orders or degrees, viz. priests, deacons, subdeacons, and acolythi; each of which had their chiefs. The chief of the acolythi was called archiacolylthus.
