a feast or entertainment made at funerals, in the north part of England. Arvil bread is the bread delivered to the poor at funeral solemnities; and arvil, arval, arful, are used for the burial or funeral rites; as,

Come, bring my jerkin, Tibb, I'll to the arvil; Yon man's dea feuy feoun, it makes me marvil.
