an island in the north-west part of Lincolnshire in England. It is formed by the rivers Trent, Idle, and Dan; and is about ten miles long and five broad. The lower part is marshy, but produces an odoriferous shrub called gull; the middle is rich and fruitful, yielding flax in great abundance, as also alabaster which is used for making lime. The principal town is called Axeby, and is now very thinly inhabited.
