Jerome calls it Bamoth, a city of the Amorites, beyond Jordan, in the possession of the sons of Reuben. Whether the same with that mentioned Numb. xxi. is doubtful, from the disagreement of interpreters; and yet we may admit it to be the place of encampment of the Israelites, and of Balaam's first station, or where he had the first view of the rear of the people.
