in Heraldry, a bearing in form of a long square. They are supposed to represent pieces of cloth of gold or silver; but Guillel thinks they represent a letter sealed up, and other authors take them for bricks. Billeté signifies that the escutcheon is all over strewed with billets, the number not ascertained.

BILLET-Wood, small wood for fuel, cut three feet and four inches long, and seven inches and a half in compass; the size of which is to be inquired of by justices.
