BONAVENTURA, a celebrated miniature painter, was born at Bologna, and was a disciple of Lucio Masfari. But his sole delight was in miniature painting, and in that way he arrived at great excellence. Instead of working from his own invention, or original design, he employed himself to imitate, in small size, the pictures of Guido, Corregio, Titian, and other great masters, and those he finished with astonishing grace, neatness, and beauty. A great number of the works of this master are in the duke's gallery at Modena, and are highly valued. He died in 1662, his age unknown.
