the country of the Cafrirs or Hottentots, in the most southerly parts of Africa, lying in the form of a cresent about the inland country of Monomotapa, between 35° south latitude and the tropic of Capricorn: and bounded on the east, south, and west, by the Indian and Atlantic oceans. See Hottentots.
Most of the sea coasts of this country are subject to the Dutch, who have built a fort near the most southern promontory called the Cape of Good Hope.
