Charles du Fresne, Sieur du, one of the most learned writers of his time, was born at Amiens in 1663, and studied at the Jesuits college in that city. Afterwards he applied himself to the study of the law at Orleans, and gained great reputation by his works; among which are, 1. The history of the empire of Constantinople under the French emperors. 2. John Cinnamus's five books of the history of the affairs of John and Manuel Comnenus, in Greek and Latin, with historical and philological notes. 3. Gieffarium ad Scriptores medice et infimae Latinae.
