a town of Ireland, in the county of Catherlough, and province of Leinster; situated on the river Barrow, 16 miles north-east of Kilkenny. W. Long. 7° 1'. N. Lat. 52° 45'.

a county of Ireland, about 28 miles in length, and eight in breadth; bounded on the east by Wicklow and Wexford, on the west by Queen's county, on the north by Kildare, and on the south and south-west by Wexford. It contains 5600 houses, 42 parishes, five baronies or boroughs, and sends six members to parliament, viz. two for the county, two for Catherlough, and two for Old Leighlen.
