in Ancient Geography, an ancient people of the Hither Asia. Their situation is differently assigned; Strabo placing them in Paphlagonia, to the east of Synope; Apollonius Rhodius and Stephanus, on the east of the Thermodon, in Pontus; called Halizones, by Homer. They either gave their name to, or took it from, their iron manufactures (Xenophon, Val. Flaccus), their only support, their soil being barren and ungrateful, (Dionysius Periegetes).
