COPPA

Volume 6 · 74 words · 1815 Edition

in Law, a cop or cock of grass, hay, or corn, divided into titheable portions; as the tenth cock, &c. This word in strictness denotes the gathering or laying up the corn in cops or heaps, as the method is for barley or oats, &c., not bound up, that it may be the more fairly and justly tithed: and in Kent they still retain the word, a cop or cap of hay, straw, &c.
