a royal borough of Scotland in the shire of Ross, seated on the frith of Cromarty, 15 miles west of the town of Cromarty. Near it runs the river Conel, famous for producing pearls. W. Long. 4. 15. N. Lat. 57. 45. Dingwall was a Scotch barony in the person of the duke of Ormond in right of his lady, but forfeited in 1715.
