a port town of Sweden, in the province of Gothland, and territory of Schonen, seated Elsinburg on the side of the Sound, over against Elsinore. It was formerly a fortress belonging to the Danes; but all the fortifications were demolished in 1679, and there is only one tower of a castle which remains undemolished. It now belongs to Sweden. E.
