On the east side it reached the city walls; on the south, the Via Lavicana; on the west, the wide valley between Mount Coelius and the Palatine; on the north, the Mons Viminalis; on the east side was the Porta Esquilina. This hill by some of the ancients was called Suburrana, from the street Suburra to the north of it: by the poets, Esquilus.
