Charles Hannibal, one of the most celebrated civilians of his time, was born at Aix in 1681; and acquired an extraordinary skill in the civil and canon law, and in the belles lettres. He published the Basilice, or Constitutions of the Emperors of the East, in Greek and Latin, with learned notes, in seven vols. folio; and editions of Cedrenus, Nicetas, Anastasius Bibliothecarius, Constantine Manasses, and Cujas, with learned and curious notes.
