JOHN OGIER DE, one of the best French poets in the 17th century, and one of the first members of the French academy, was born at St Juit de Lusiac. He acquired the esteem of Mary de Medicis, and of the wits of his time. He was a Protestant, and died in a very advanced age. He wrote many works in verse and prose. His epigrams, and some of his sonnets, are particularly esteemed.
