in its general sense, includes the whole process of curing or removing a disorder, and recovering health. In this sense medicine is defined the art of healing. In its more restrained sense, as used in surgery, &c. healing denotes the uniting or consolidating the lips of a wound or ulcer. The medicines proper for this intention are called incarnatives, agglutinatives, vulneraries, &c.

in Architecture, denotes the covering the roof of a building. The healing is various; as of lead, tiles, slate, Horsham stone, shingles, or reeds and straw.
